Investing in people is shaping the future of care in Rotherham
The future of social care depends on the people who choose to build their careers within it and how well we support them to grow. At Each Other Care, this starts with seeing potential early, creating the right opportunities, and backing people to step forward with confidence and support.
Lola’s award-winning journey is a great example of this in action. This week our valued kitchen team member at The Abbeys Care Home in Rotherham completed her Level 3 Senior Production Chef apprenticeship. A significant milestone and a wonderful reflection of the consistent support that sits behind it.
From day one, Lola has been encouraged to take ownership from her Head Chef Mark. She now confidently leads the kitchen in his absence, supporting her team and ensuring the day runs smoothly. That trust has been built through gaining valuable experience and a culture that backs people to succeed.
Her creativity is felt across the home. Lola shapes inspiring menus to introducing themed food days and brings ideas to life in ways that support better dining experiences for residents. Small touched like a St Patrick’s Day green brownie trifle become notable moments of connection and conversation across the home.
We regularly receive feedback of how residents and loved ones notice the difference. It’s because when someone takes pride in what they do, it shows in the detail, in the atmosphere, and in how those who love and work with us feel each day.
Lola tells us more:
“I’m really proud to have completed my Level 3. The team at The Abbeys have really supported me to grow and build my confidence, especially leading the kitchen and giving me the space to try new ideas. It means a lot to be able to make a difference through food and seeing that even small things can really brighten someone’s day.”
Despite being one of the youngest members of the team, Lola leads with a quiet confidence and is always there to support others within the home. Her progression reflects a clear focus on recognising potential and creating space for people to step into it.
J’amie Morgan, Registered Manager at The Abbeys added:
“We don’t necessarily wait for people to be ready before giving them opportunities but rather just support them to get to where they need to be. Lola’s development has come from being trusted to lead and learn, and encouraged each day to bring her own ideas into the role. That’s how confidence grows and I’m so proud of her.”
At Each Other Care, we know that when people feel supported, trusted and able to grow, they build environments where others thrive. Lola’s journey shows what’s possible when that belief is a lived experience.
