Josh’s Inspiring Journey into Care

At Each Other Care, everyone has a unique story to share, from our wonderful residents to our valued team members, our lives come together at a crossroads, creating the next chapters in our shared home communities. At White Ash Brook Care Home in Oswaldtwistle, Josh’s journey to become one of our home carers inspired us all.

Meet Josh.

Josh’s story began with his Nanna. As a child, he spent weekends and school holidays helping his step-mum, who became his Nanna’s full-time carer after she was diagnosed with dementia. Josh’s role was to keep her company, chat and make her laugh.

“My step-mum has always been amazing,” Josh says. “She worked as a nurse and cared for children in care homes. Watching her care for Nanna was so inspiring. I always thought she’d be knighted one day.”

His Nanna made just as big an impact on him. “It was heartbreaking to see her forget who we were,” Josh shares. “But spending time with her, making her laugh and seeing her smile showed me how much those moments matter.” Those moments made him want to help others in the same way.

When Josh applied to White Ash Brook Care Home for the elderly, he was drawn to the welcoming atmosphere. “The residents were so happy and funny.” The team at White Ash Brook residential home couldn’t be more grateful that Josh chose to bring his warmth and energy to the home.

“What I love most is spending time with the residents,” Josh says.

“Talking to them, dancing and singing with them.” It’s those small moments, especially with residents who have reduced capacity, that bring him the most pride.

“It’s so touching when they remember my name or say thank you.”

At 21, Josh is also studying Psychology and Counselling at university, hoping to help even more people in the future as he always wanted to support people with dementia or mental health.

Josh is a wonderful example of the compassionate team members we are proud to have at Each Other Care, who support dementia care and residential care in Oswaldtwistle. His passion for making people smile and feel valued is everything we stand for in our care home care. We are so proud to have him as part of our White Ash Brook team in our care home in Oswaldtwistle and look forward to celebrating more team members like him.
