Music, Movement and Owls Take Centre Stage
Care homes from across Angus came together last week for the annual Angus Care Home Network Event, a celebration of creativity, connection, and shared experiences.
This year’s theme, music and movement, gave residents and team members the chance to enjoy a wide variety of activities. From group exercises led by Angus Alive to trying out musical instruments, the event showcased how simple activities can bring joy, connection, and meaningful moments for people living in shared homes.
One of the most memorable highlights was the arrival of some very special guests, barn owls. Residents Tracey and Ella were particularly delighted to meet them up close, with both taking turns to hold the birds. Ella was thrilled to learn that the owls will also be visiting Benholm next month, bringing even more excitement.
Alongside the activities, the event was also an opportunity for care homes to connect with each other. Residents and teams from across Angus shared stories, swapped ideas, and enjoyed a delicious buffet kindly provided by a local business.
The Network, which was launched earlier this year, was set up to give activity co-ordinators and care teams a chance to collaborate, exchange resources, and celebrate the impact that meaningful activities have on wellbeing. Supported by Scottish Care and the Health and Social Care Partnership, it has already secured funding from the MacKenzie Legacy Trust to host events into 2025 and 2026.
“We know that activities like music, movement, and animal encounters make a huge difference to quality of life in care homes,” said a Network spokesperson.
“By coming together, we can share ideas and create even more opportunities for residents to enjoy moments that matter.”
The Angus Care Home Network also encourages homes to build connections with the wider community, ensuring residents remain part of local life in Forfar.
With owls, music, and plenty of laughter, this year’s event showed exactly what happens when creativity and collaboration come together.
