The Abbeys Rolls Out the Red Carpet for Its Very Own Oscars

The Abbeys Care Home in Rotherham hosted its very own Oscars last week. Residents, team members and families gathered in the lounge which was decked out for our very own stars with twinkling lights, a red carpet and delicious buffet.

Residents walked the carpet, arm-in-arm with our team members, greeted with a glass of prosecco and hors d'oeuvres. They took their seats, chatting excitedly to each other as our live singer began his set, a mixture of Christmas songs and our residents’ favourites.

Every award had been voted for by residents, team members and loved ones, making the evening a true reflection of who matters most here at The Abbeys.  Jamie took home the Resident's Star Award. He works in our kitchen and has built such amazing relationships with the residents. Sharon received the Ray of Sunshine Award after an overwhelming number of votes. When she's on shift, there’s always singing, dancing and it’s rare that a day goes by without a hokey cokey.

Lisa was honoured with the Family First Award. She has been part of our home for twenty years and really takes time to get to know residents and their families. Mark received the True to You Award. He's always looking for research-backed ways to improve residents' days and puts his heart into everything he does.

We also celebrated Dawn, Zoe, Alicia, Courtney, Amanda and Karen, each recognised for what they bring to our home.

The highlight of the evening came mid-way through the awards when residents Lillian and Margret took to the stage and gave a beautiful performance, singing their favourite song.

Home Manager J'amie said:

"It was so special to see our team celebrated by our residents, their families and other team members. Being positive, light-hearted and there for each other means everything to us here. The Oscars is our way of saying thank you to everyone. I am so proud of Lillian and Margert for performing so beautifully. We can’t wait to do it again next year."

We’re currently welcoming new residents for residential care, dementia care and respite care. If you'd like to find out more about life at The Abbeys Care Home in Rawmarsh and how we could support you or your loved one, we'd love to open a conversation.
