Investing in Our People
At Each Other Care, we’re always looking at how we can support team members to grow and develop. Our Care Home Assistant Practitioner (CHAPS) programme is one of the ways we do this, creating clear pathways for experienced carers to build clinical skills and take on new responsibilities.
Cordelia is one of the team members who has progressed through the CHAPS programme. Before starting the training, she was working as a Senior Carer and keen to develop her skills further.
“I was planning to pay for it myself,” she explains. “Then two of my colleagues put my name forward and I was able to undertake the training with Each Other Care.”
The ten-week CHAPS programme supports experienced team members to develop clinical and leadership skills, working more closely alongside nursing teams. It helps bridge the gap between senior carers and nurses, building confidence and capability in practice.
For Cordelia, the training has changed how she works day to day. She now supports nurses with clinical tasks and works alongside them to help ensure care is consistent and well-coordinated.
“It’s boosted my confidence so much,” she says. “The younger team members come to me now. They look up to me, and I can answer them with confidence. I’m passing on what I’ve learned to other team members.”
Earlier this year, Cordelia was named a finalist at the Great British Care Awards for Putting People First. The whole team were so proud to see her commitment to providing compassionate, person-centred care being celebrated.
Since completing the programme, Cordelia has started thinking differently about what comes next.
“It’s opened so many doors for me. I want to aim higher now and do a nursing qualification one day. My dream is to be a mental health nurse. This process has taught me that there’s nothing to be scared of.”
CHAPS is just one of the ways we support people to build skills, confidence and progression within the care sector. Cordelia’s journey shows how learning and opportunity can open new directions and encourage others to take the next step.
“I feel lucky to be part of this family. Thank you for the opportunity.”
If you’re interested in a career in care with opportunities to develop and progress, we’d love to hear from you.
