Pop-up shop brings the high street to care home lounge

Residents at our Highfield Hall Care Home in Haslingden have been browsing a fully stocked shop, choosing their own outfits and picking songs on live local radio and all without leaving the home.

The team invited Be You Pop Up Shop to set up in their lounge, complete with clothes, jewellery and a cashier.

Each resident was given their own appointment time to browse at their own pace. Families and loved ones were invited to join them, just like a trip into town.

Resident Kath settled in with a Baileys and watched others shop, while the rest of the home took their time picking out something for themselves.

Rossendale Radio also joined them, recording interviews and letting residents choose which songs went out live on air to listen to whilst they shopped.

Peter from Rossendale Radio said: "Every time someone walks through that door they've got a big smile on their face."

The event was organised by Wellbeing leads Karen and Diane alongside home manager Anita, who wanted to create an experience built around giving residents the chance to choose something lovely for themselves.

Diane said: "The residents were still talking about it for days after and it's lovely to see them wearing their purchases and discussing them with friends."

“Little things like shopping brings normality and help our residents regain independence. It was lovely to see them having a browse and choosing what they like. You could see it in their faces, they were made up with it."

Highfield Hall Care Home in Haslingden is now welcoming new residents for compassionate residential, nursing and dementia care.
