Building Partnerships by Pioneering Hydration
Here at The Abbeys, we are proud of our close working relationships with healthcare partners. Our close partnership with the NHS through the Hydration Champion Challenge is a great example of how collaboration and research-led practice can drive measurable improvements in resident wellbeing. This trusted relationship enables us to deliver quality care but one that is also grounded in evidence, ensuring our residents receive the very best support.

Proud Runners Up of Summer By The Sea
We’ve just been announced as runners-up in the Summer by the Sea challenge, hosted by NHS South Yorkshire. This recognition celebrates the creativity and dedication of our team, who transformed the topic of hydration into a a celebtation to improve outcomes for all who live with us. With seaside-inspired hydration stations, fruity slushies, and accessible hydration cups, we ensured residents could enjoy choice, variety, and fun, while supporting healthy fluid intake.
For us, hydration is a top priority with proven benefits, from reducing the risk of UTIs to supporting healthy weight and cognitive function. By continuously developing new approaches and tools, we are setting the standard for what quality hydration looks like in care homes.
Our summer hydration party
September’s Focus of Back to Old School
Not one to miss a party, we are embracing a Back to Old School theme this September to further embed best practice. In partnership with residents, we are bringing school-day memories to life through nostalgic drinks and foods such as ginger beer, rice pudding, and colourful custard creations. These reminiscence activities connect hydration with storytelling, laughter, and social connection, supporting our daily lives with evidence-based research.
I’m excited to be working with our residents to find out what they used to drink at school and make this a central part of our next event. We’ll be doing a variety of different tastes this time, along with trialling hydration pots, which is a first for us and is thanks to the continuous inspiration from Katherine South and her team at NHS South Yorkshire."
