White Ash Brook couple features on BBC North West Tonight
Resident David and is wife Linda appeared on BBC North West Tonight this week as part of the TV programme’s Christmas Star campaign. This highlights the people and groups making a meaningful difference in their local communities.
The feature focused on Friends Reminisce, a weekly group that has run in Haslingden for ten years and continues to offer vital support to people living with dementia and their carers. Meeting every Friday, the group provides familiarity, conversation and shared understanding, something many rely on week in, week out.
Linda and David
As well as being a rock for David, Linda is also a valued volunteer at White Ash Brook, where her warmth, consistency and willingness to give time make a real difference to daily experiences for all. Her support journey with David was shared as part of the programme, showing how trusted relationships and regular check ins help people feel settled, understood and less alone.
For David, maintaining connections beyond our home, and the way we support these is key. The feature reflected how this wider network of volunteers, community groups and care teams working alongside one another help people continue to live well.
The programme recognised the dedication of the group’s Chair, Carole Watchorn, who received a BBC Christmas Star award for her long-standing commitment to Friends Reminisce.
We’re proud to see the impact of this work shared, and so grateful to Linda for the time and care she gives our residents, and our thanks on behalf of the White Ash Brook community to the Friends Reminisce group for the support they continue to offer every week.
