A Unique Theatre Experience for Highfield Hall

The non-verbal performance of "Me, the Snow, and Old Man Crow," marked the first live show in Highfield Hall Care Home performed entirely without speech. Instead, talented performers expressed themselves through movement, expression and puppetry, bringing storytelling to life without the need for words.

Their small casts, with no more than four performers, enable them to adapt and engage with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Performers bring extensive experience in diverse performing arts backgrounds, including circus, street theatre, clowning, puppetry, and mask work to the performances.

Registered Manager Janet tells us more:

“We were delighted to welcome Goofus Theatre and offer this unique performance to our residents. We are committed to providing a comprehensive and varied activities and entertainment programme here at Highfield Hall and this was an excellent opportunity for us all to enjoy something new.”

Residents and team members loved the fully immersive sensory experience and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The activities team are now looking into similar events in the future.

 The Goofus Theatre difference

Goofus Theatre was founded in 2012 and stands out as a touring theatre company with a unique approach, creating original pieces using mask, puppetry, clowning, play, and music.

The majority of their work is non-verbal, making it accessible to diverse audiences, including those facing barriers to traditional theatre experiences. As a not-for-profit community interest company, Goofus Theatre is dedicated to making the magic of theatre available to everyone.

 Encompassing our Values

The inclusive and accessible performance exemplifies Each Other Care’s value of being there for each other and the impact of this unique theatre experience on our care community was profound, with residents describing heightened senses during the performance. Theatre has proven benefits for mental well-being including stimulating cognitive functions and improving concentration.

Highfield Hall want to thank the Goofus Theatre Company for bringing this extraordinary experience to their care community.
