Beryl and Jackie go Ice Skating!
Residents from our care home in Rawmarsh, Rotherham, The Abbeys, wrapped up warm last week for an exciting outing to the Doncaster Dome. Thank you to their wonderful commitment to accessibility, Beryl and Jackie joined our team out on the ice rink in their wheelchairs.
Team members popped on their skates and had just as much fun, gliding around with our residents, waving to children skating around them. There were a few wobbly moments but lots of smiles and we were proud to offer an experience that neither of the ladies had done before.
This is what our nationally recognised Wellbeing programme looks like here at Each Other Care. It's listening to our residents, asking what they’d like to do, then creating new and exciting experiences that bring variety and fun into our week.
"We're always looking for ways stay active and try new things," said a home manager, J’amie. "Seeing Jackie and Beryl’s faces light up made it all worth it and we can’t wait to take more residents back."
The visit follows the launch of The Abbeys Go Swimming initiative, which gives residents the chance to take part in activities they used to enjoy and helps build their confidence in the water again.
These experiences show how The Abbeys continues to focus on wellbeing and providing care that contributes to living a meaningful life. They’re committed to making sure residents can keep doing the things they love, whilst staying active and involved in the community.
Ice Skating is a perfect example of Each Other Care’s values in action, we’re there for each other, creating positive and light-hearted resident-led experiences. With rosy cheeks and new stories to tell, The Abbey's trip to Doncaster Dome showed that it's never too late to try something new.
