Growing Together: Learning From Each Other

At Highfield Hall Care Home in Haslingden, Kath lives with dementia and sometimes just needs a little support to remember how to do things she used to enjoy. She was curious when she saw Linda working on a jigsaw. “What’s this? Can I have a turn?” she asked, gently picking up a few pieces and stacking them into a little tower.

Linda smiled. “That’s not quite how you do it,” she said kindly. A retired primary school teacher, Linda’s helpful nature comes out in the loveliest ways. “Come on, I’ll show you.”

Building a jigsaw together.

She sat beside Kath and handed her pieces that she knew would match. Every time they clicked into place, Kath lit up with an “oooh!” and a proud smile.

With a little encouragement, Kath found her rhythm and enjoyed piecing it together side by side with Linda.

It was meaningful for Linda too. She often playfully asks, “Give me something to do,” and this moment gave her purpose by simply being there for someone else.

At Each Other Care, this is what growing together looks like. We notice each other’s strengths, creating moments of purpose and supporting one another in the ways that matter most for each person.
