Highfield Hall Residents Enjoy Afternoon Entertainment at Blackburn Theatre Variety Show

Residents at Highfield Hall, Haslingden, recently enjoyed a trip to Blackburn Empire Theatre to watch the popular Monday Afternoon Variety Show.

Blackburn Empire Theatre is a small community-based theatre, mainly ran by dedicated volunteers. Entertainment included 1940s style singer, Poppy Holiday, ukulele virtuoso Anthony Mason and barbershop quartet, Wrong Direction. Residents also enjoyed joining in with the singalongs.

The benefits of older people engaging in the arts have been well documented, including helping to foster a sense of community, meaningful social interaction and encouraging mental stimulation.

Karen, Activities Coordinator at Highfield Hall said: “It was brilliant to see how much our residents enjoyed the show, along with ice cream and refreshments. We’d like to extend a special thank you to all the volunteers at Blackburn Empire Theatre who couldn’t do enough to accommodate us all, making sure we had everything needed for an afternoon of fun!”
